COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

All of the events start and finish across from the Currumbin RSL, in the green space beyond the overflow car park. All events will be conducted on an out and back course; requiring runners to merge from race precinct onto the footpath and continue on the footpath down Mitchell Avenue before linking through to a wider, well shaded cycleway that runs parallel to the M1 and then Stewart Drive, Currumbin.

The cycleway will utilise an underpass that then turns back west, leading runners through to the pretty - but steep in sections - Tugun Hill Conservation Area. It is after a short dive into the forest that the 6.6km event will make it’s turnaround. This race is predominantly on pavement.

For the longer events; after negotiating the single track, punctuated with a series of stair sections, runners will then utilise the cycleway once more, this time just for a few hundred metres to slip underneath the M1 and on to the ‘Border Trails’. Runners in the 13.5km event will run up to the entry to the ‘Buffer Track’; the agricultural buffer zone between NSW and Qld - and due to the border closure, the reason we have been away so long - the Buffer is actually on NSW turf!

22km and 31km runners will continue along the Buffer Track; the half turning around near the old ‘Up the Buff’ entry point, the 31km will head for home when the Track meets Tomewin Mountain Road near Bains Road (the traditional turn for ‘Up the Buff’). The Half marathon will be race included in the Triple Crown Short Course Series, the 31km event; for the Long Course Series. To be eligible for the Series, competitors must have also participated at the Wild Earth ‘In the Raw’ event in March and competing at the Wild Earth ‘Coastal High’.

The Buffer Track section is undulating, including the infamous ‘Strawberry Hill’ for the 31km runners. The surface is quiet good, with some grass sections but predominantly good quality dirt road/track. Being an out and back course, we will ask runners to stay to the left and where necessary, slower runners to give way to the speedsters!

There will be aid stations on course; with all to carry water with major stations also to carry FIXX hydration products. The events will be cupless and aid stations largely self-serve, with volunteers on hand to assist where possible. Nutritional needs are the responsibility of the individual athlete and the only mandatory gear requirement will be the ability to carry a minimum of 500ml of fluids (as aid stations are no more than 3-4km apart).
